What I Learned From the Disney Princesses
74Despite their impossibly voluminous hair and ridiculously itty-bitty waists, I actually learned some pretty valuable lessons from the Disney Princesses growing up. What did you get out of those famous films?
Cinderella
Pro: No matter what people think about you, no matter how popular or loved you feel that you are, there is always somebody who truly cares about knowing your heart. Just be patient and know that you are beautiful and that is never based on circumstances! It is just plain truth.
Con: Pumpkins are not actually magic and mice don’t know how to sew. (Not that that’s based on personal experience or anything…) Sorry lovelies, it’s the cold, hard truth.
Song: “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”
Modern Song: “Who Says” by Selena Gomez
Snow White
Pro:Vanity is not attractive, and envy is not enviable. Take the time to learn to love what you’ve got and celebrate the gifts of others, don’t waste time trying to be someone different when you could be unearthing your own talents and unique beauty!
Con:For heaven’s sake, don’t just eat every apple that some random creepy lady on the street hands over to you! That’s just common sense, people.
Song:“With a Smile and a Song”
Modern Song:“Lovely” by Sara Haze
Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Pro:True love is sacrificing for others, having a willingness to look past the exterior and being courageous enough to tell the truth. Also, being smart and independent is very attractive.
Con: Angrily running out into a wolf-infested forest on a snowy night probably isn’t the best idea…I don’t recommend this, especially if you don’t have an enchanted half-beast, half-man hybrid for a boyfriend.
Song: “Is this Home?”
Modern Song: “I Was Here” by Lady Antebellum
Ariel (The Little Mermaid)
Pro: Sometimes one has to have the courage to make hard decisions that others don’t agree with to follow your own dreams. Even your family might not understand at first, but you only get one life, so sometimes you’ve just got to go for it.
Con: Don’t sell your voice to a freaky octo-lady who has her eels follow her around. Creepy.
Song: “Part of Your World”
Modern Song: “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles
Jasmine (Aladdin)
Pro: Courage is knowing that love defies all things and that a great adventure is just around the corner if you’re willing to risk it all for something that truly matters.
Con: There’s no need to wear a midriff every single day. Goodness.
Song: “A Whole New World”
Modern Song: “Unstoppable” by Rascal Flatts
Pocahontas
Pro: If you want something in your world to be different, persist in your efforts to see it changed. Stay strong in what you believe in and your determination will pay off! Also, nature is valuable and worth protecting.
Con: If a tree begins talking to you…you may want to move away.Far, far away.
Song: “Colors of the Wind”
Modern Song: “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas
Mulan
Pro: Honor and strength isn’t based on physicality, it is built on bravery, determination and the willingness that you have to fight for the things you believe in. Also, being confident in who you are as a person is an extremely valuable quality.
Con: I just wish I had a tiny, hilarious dragon like Mushu. They’re hard to find.
Song: “Reflection”
Modern Song: “Miss Independent” by Ne-Yo
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
Pro: Everyone needs their sleep. It’s necessary for one’s good health. That’s the best I’ve got.
Con: Don’t go into a dark, secluded high tower that has only a spinning wheel in it!Hasn’t she seen any fairytales? The creepy looking uncle or stepmother almost always has an ulterior motive!
Song: “Once Upon a Dream”
Modern Song: “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Pro: A little hard work goes a long way. Being determined to make a difference in your life can be a real inspiration to those around you!
Con:Try to avoid being turned into a frog. Although it might sound fun for a little while, soon you won’t be able to reach things on the top shelf and that will be a bummer. Also, your friends might not recognize you.
Song: “Almost There”
Modern Song: “Mr. Know it All” by Kelly Clarkson

I think this is a great hub. Sometimes the Disney princesses get lost in an avalanche of jaded scorn, but the messages the movies have to offer are mostly good ones. Good job!
Disney has been always fun for everyone :) good hub.
Great hub, my children are watching Beauty and the Beast right now for the 100th time. Congrats on your Hubnugget nomination!
Haha! This hub is brilliant! I think I'm a tie between Mulan and Pocahontas. I chose Pocahontas because I'm an environmentalist. Great read. :)
Congratulations on your hubnugget nomination. Love the princesses. Especially Cinderella. Thanks for the write.
Nicely done. I also love the connection to the modern songs. Congrats on your nomination and welcome to Hubpages!
That was a different thing...relating a latest song to each of these stories. I love this hub! Specially Disney Princesses are always attention getting and eye catching. We grew up looking upto their stories in one way or another. ;) Well personally, i'm an Ariel, through and through!
